    Which headphones work best for the office, travel or sport?

    For desks and long trips, headband headphones stay comfortable for hours and carry the biggest batteries. For sport, open-ear hooks and neckbands stay put. True wireless earbuds make the easiest everyday gift.

    What is the difference between true wireless, open-ear and neckband earphones?

    True wireless earbuds are two separate buds that recharge in a case. Open-ear models hook or clip onto the ear instead of sealing it. Neckband earphones join both buds with a band worn around the neck.

    Are wired earphones still worth ordering?

    Yes, for events, training rooms and travel kits. Wired USB-C earphones plug into most current phones and laptops and need no charging or pairing.

    The noise lab

    A steady engine hum: the best case for ANC. Microphones hear the noise and play its mirror image, so the two cancel out. Steady, low sounds fade most; voices and sudden noises less.

    The call test

    ENC microphones pick out your voice and turn the room down for the person on the other end. ANC is about what you hear; ENC is about what they hear.

    What is the difference between ANC and ENC?

    ANC (active noise cancelling) reduces the noise you hear: microphones pick up outside sound and the earbuds play an opposite signal that cancels it. ENC (environmental noise cancellation) cleans up your voice on calls, so the other person hears less of the room.

    What is transparency mode?

    Transparency uses the earbud microphones to let outside sound in on purpose, so you can hear an announcement or answer a colleague without taking the earbuds out. CAUBY and MARCUS pair it with noise cancelling.

    Does the Bluetooth version change the sound?

    Hardly. Bluetooth 5.3 and 5.4 mainly improve efficiency and connections, not audio. Sound depends on the codec both devices share: SBC works everywhere, AAC suits iPhone, and LE Audio with LC3 is arriving on newer devices.

    Do branded headphones come with a charger?

    Usually a cable only. Since 28 December 2024, new headphones, earbuds and portable speakers sold in the EU that charge by cable must use USB-C, and they may be sold without a charger. A pictogram on the box shows whether one is included.

    Which logo methods work on headphones and earbuds?

    Pad printing suits smooth plastic cases and cups, laser engraving gives a tone-on-tone mark on bamboo and aluminium, and doming adds a glossy full-colour badge. Each product lists the methods it supports.
