    FAQ

Caps and hats: the questions we hear most

    01

What is the difference between a 5-panel and a 6-panel cap?

A 6-panel cap has six panels with a seam down the centre front. A 5-panel cap has one wide front panel instead, so a front logo runs unbroken. Both take embroidery and transfers well.

    02

Structured or unstructured: which cap should we choose?

A structured cap has a front backed with buckram, so it holds its shape and shows a logo crisply. An unstructured cap has no backing and relaxes on the head. For uniforms and bold logos, go structured.

    03

What sizes do your caps come in, and how do we measure?

Most of our caps adjust, usually from 57 to 59 cm; kids' caps are around 54 cm and some adult styles go up to 63 cm. Measure from the centre of the forehead, just above the ears.

The logo lab: stitch your logo onto a cap

Type a name, pick a technique and watch it stitch out in the hoop. The checks flag a logo too big for the front or too small to stitch.

    Decorating caps: what to know

    04

How big can a logo be on the front of a cap?

About 10 to 14 cm wide and 4.4 to 5.6 cm high, depending on the cap. A 5-panel front gives the cleanest space; on a 6-panel cap the logo crosses the centre seam.

    05

Embroidery, 3D puff, badge or transfer: which suits our cap?

Flat embroidery is the classic that lasts. 3D puff lifts bold shapes. Badges carry fine detail and suit beanies. Transfers and sublimation handle photos and gradients, best on polyester.

    06

How small can text be in cap embroidery?

Keep capitals at least 7.6 mm tall and lowercase 6.4 mm, with strokes of 1 mm or more. Text under about 4.6 mm is enlarged or left out.

Which caps and hats suit summer events, and which suit winter?

For summer, cotton bucket hats, paper straw hats and festival trilbies with a branded band; light technical caps suit runs and tournaments. For winter, knitted beanies with a turn-up, ear flaps or a pompom, and fleece-lined bucket hats.

    08
