    How recycling works

From an old bottle to a new one

Run the recycling line for four materials, learn to read the labels, then compare how much recycled content real bottles carry.

    The recycling line

    1. 79%less energy than making new PET resin

Bottles are washed, cut into flakes and melted into pellets for new bottles.

    2. 50%of new stainless steel is made from scrap, on average

Scrap steel is melted in a furnace and rolled into new sheet for bottles.

    3. 95%less energy than making new aluminium, at best

Cans and offcuts are shredded, melted and cast into new metal.

    4. 100%recyclable, again and again

Glass is crushed into cullet and melted down for new glassware.

    Read the label

Tap a label to see what it checks.

    1. RCS Recycled Claim Standard: checks the recycled material and tracks it through each step of the supply chain. At least 5% recycled content.
    2. GRS Global Recycled Standard: like RCS, plus social, environmental and chemical rules. At least 20% recycled content, 50% for the logo.
    3. ISCC PLUS Certifies recycled or bio-based raw material by mass balance: the recycled share is booked to the product through audited accounts.
    4. FSC Forest Stewardship Council: the wood or bamboo comes from responsibly managed forests, tracked from forest to product.
